Olive House

Residential Renovation,
Progress Pictures, 2025

An ambitious restoration of a high victorian home in Walthamstow. Transforming an unloved house from the 19th century, an era of signficant change, meant this house underwent an evolution of styles throughout it’s life so far. Our challenge was to create symbiosis between historical and architectural elements, bringing the home into this current day with modern amenities without stripping out an inch of character.

Repairing original features to breathe life back into an 1860’s period property

Natural insulation system used internally on external facing walls combined with lime plaster to maintain breathability.

Upgraded timber sash windows and doors that reference the colour variation found within London stock bricks.

Images illustrating the orginal condition of the house.

Pandora’s Box

Set & Costume Design, 2025

A powerful play delving into the 50-year division of the island of Cyprus. With themes exploring home, identity and belonging the audience follow the growing relationship between two new friends Leyla and Pandora.

Studio Rooted conceptualised and delivered the design for the set as well as costume and props. The theme of ‘home’ remained at the core of the play’s narrative and therefore took centre stage. Critical to the unforgettable history of the island is the devastation of war including the ghoslty homes that remain uninhabited, holding secrets and memories. The ‘house’ with it’s material qualities are semi-transparent with a worn and tired fabric that evoke an ethereal space, is the house a figment of our imagination? This symbolic home is reflective of the Cypriot socio-political landscape as well as architectural.

“The extraordinary talent that is Studio Rooted; known to me as Christiana and Efe. You understood the concept of the play, added your creativity and delivered a stunning set, props and costumes. Thank you for being true professionals and a joy to work with.” - Leon Yianni, Writer & Director

Studio Rooted is a narrative-led research, architecture and design studio.

Studio Rooted stems from a deep fascination in cultural heritage and how this is represented through architecture and design. We passionately embrace both contemporary and historic objects and structures, always with the aim to sympathetically restore or authentically craft, creating meaningful forms, spaces or experiences.

After meeting during our first year of university in 2013, we established our studio in 2024 to champion our shared interests. In our first year we have worked on architectural restorations, interior and set design projects. The common thread that allows us to work across these and many other disciplines is the sensitivity to which we approach each project. Research in its many forms allows us to understand and develop a contextually relevant concept and through collaboration we can grow beyond a single discipline.

We strive for our work to evoke meaningful connection, emotional response, or transformation in whatever form it takes.
